A journey through The 28th Encounter

A Journey Through the 28th Encounter

Sweet hours of prayers, in the midst of an encounter
It's thanksgiving day, twenty-seventh of an encounter
A new season beckons through a 14-day of encounter
Drei Tagen, sandwiched in—what a unique encounter

Thanksgiving—a new attitude to shine through
The Lord is good and gracious all through
With all my heart, His steadfast love flows through
Surely His mercies and grace reside through

Time, a precious resource, is limited to all
100,000 hours perhaps—work to be born for all
In wisdom we ask, “Master, teach us to number all”
Our days of living, all for our Master’s glory call

Faithfulness—a new song and a mark too
In my service to the One who calls me too
Devotion to Him, a new step for Him too
In relationship and resources—a duo two

Boldness—a new fuel, His gospel to share
To share His word through actions of loving care
Standeth for truth, our Master’s love to share
A spirit of timidity not given, so I long to share

Health—a desire to be, in body and spirit for His glory
Good health for ministry's sake, shining His glory
Kept in good shape—bones and muscles for glory
In times of weakness too, refrain not His glory

Repentance—a new call, old and all-time prayer
Search me, O Lord, let my heart make this prayer
To know my anxious heart and rest in prayer
Making a turnaround, a confidence through prayer

1st year to join the school—a people of God
My prayers to the speakers: that You alone, God
Be glorified—I choose to trust in Your care, O God
Salvation and preservation in You, our God

CU members to be established in You, Master
Transition awaits us—82 days to You, my Master
Discipleship—a prayer to be rooted in You, Master
Program we have made—take control, divine Master

Thanksgiving sandwiched in between—it's an encounter
For Your glory alone—a new attitude, for it is an encounter
It’s been nine days of prayer—a divine encounter
Season of poetry and prayer immersed in an encounter

RSEC—a visionary team leader, deep in commitment
Regional leaders we stand to share our commitment
SPA—our top priorities, calling through our commitment
Institutions of higher learning—renewed commitment

NASEC—a strategic workmanship to new we all gain
Consolidating ministry gains—new advances we gain
Commission 2024 in mission—our Master's love to gain
Leaders united—nations to each other lessons we gain

RGC & NGC—a sacred meeting; as agents, we shine
Seeing Godly transformation—a cloud to shine
Students' agenda and associates—our hearts to shine
Motivated for service—a student's welfare forever shine

FOCUS Kenya—a home and solace for me and you
Our ministry mantra in students, so we call you
Service to campus students—wisdom for you
Forever we strive, so we invite you

iServe Africa—let all join in, for a noble course for Him

The One whom we love—let's make new melody, a hymn
Unto Him alone we invite you to come—it's only Him
The world proclaim, in adoring echoes of hymn

IFES—a global initiative—God’s Word to all nations
Guidance for new service and glory for the nations
My prayer: that its leadership strive for all nations
God’s will to be done—our prayer for the nations

Work—a desire to acquire money for God's sake
Provision for my ministry—all for our Master's sake
To fund ministry and let His Word thrive for His sake
Here I desire, and I pray—for the Lord’s sake

Thanksgiving at the apex of it all—for an encounter
17 days have passed, and here I end my encounter
It’s been 1,2,3,4... a numbered path of prayer encounter
Glory to God—what an hour’s rite of encounter

I have been having occasional moments of prayer called The Encounter that have shaped my life and attitude on a number of life issues. The 28th Encounter is part of my series of prayers that happened in August 2024, towards the end of my tenure of service as the JKUAT CU chairperson as highlighted by 82 days to the JKUAT CU AGM from the time of my writing. The poem captures my thoughts, prayers, and reflections over the 17 days. It was an hour write, one of the longest I have ever tried.

The meaning of the abbreviations used is:

  1. CU - Christian Union
  2. JKUAT - Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
  3. RSEC - Regional Student Executive Committee
  4. NASEC - National Student Executive Committee
  5. RGC - Regional Governing Council, also known as Regional Council
  6. SPA - Strategic Priorities Area
  7. NGC - National Governing Council
  8. FOCUS - Fellowship of Christian Unions
  9. IFES - International Fellowship of Evangelical Students
I have also used a German word, "Drei Tagen" - it means three days.
